Animal Science Certificate

The Blue Ridge Community and Technical College’s Animal Science Certificate Program is dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment and delivering the knowledge needed to prepare students to excel within animal care related professions.   With a focus on professionalism, leadership, and competency necessary for the promotion of animal welfare and husbandry practices effectively.

The program provides comprehensive instruction covering companion animals, livestock and wildlife as well as nutrition. Through a blend of specialized animal science courses and a general education component, students gain a well- rounded understanding of the Animal Science Careers. 

Upon successful completion of the program, students will earn a Certificate in Animal Science, equipping them with the skills and expertise needed to thrive in diverse animal care-related roles.

Program Outcomes

  • Completers will be able to obtain entry level position within animal care related fields
  • Completers will understand the role of animal welfare and the animal caretaker’s role in animal husbandry.

Career Opportunities

The student will be prepared to obtain an entry level position as an animal caretaker such as kennel assistant, farm hands, animal care attendant, or assist in veterinary offices in tasks that do not require licensing.
