EDUC 200 - Foundations of Education (3) This course examines the relationship between the school as a social institution and the larger society through a combination of philosophical, historical, and problem-oriented inquiry into that relationship. The assumption is that a teacher who has developed an understanding of the vital relationships between school and society is in a position to see his or her professional roles beyond the narrow confines of the classroom, and will emerge a more sensitive, responsive, and effective teacher. The course includes substantial reading and writing components amd a field experience with an at-risk population.
Prerequisite(s): EDUC 150 - Seminar in Education (1)
