HIM 101 - Fundamentals of HIM (2)

This course is an introduction to the Health Information Management (HIM) profession and the patient health record.  The course will emphasize the importance of patient-centered care and the role health information plays in care.  Topics introduced are functions of the health record, consent and structure of the electronic health record (EHR), health information and standards, regulations and initiatives, payment and reimbursement systems, health providers, and disciplines. Upon completion, students should demonstrate an understanding of the HIM profession and healthcare organizations, professions, and the life cycle of EHR’s.
